Since 2005, the annual award has recorded significant contributions from different world leaders, individuals, and organizations. This year, with hashtag #BeatPlasticPollution, UNEP conferred honors on some champions in different categories, such as the Ellen McArthur Foundation (United Kingdom) in the Inspiration and Action category, Blue Circle (China) in the Entrepreneurial Vision category, and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (South Africa) in the Science and Innovation category.
