Brief Innovation
The program prioritizes selected coastal MPAs and National Parks of Vietnam because these are areas established to protect biodiversity and important ecosystems for Vietnam and the world. In addition, MPA management boards and national parks are also facing problems of plastic waste pollution within the boundaries of the management area. Therefore, long-term, repeated monitoring results will be able to support the following purposes: • Determining the composition and quantification of plastic waste and its origin; • Reccommending the hot spots for local authorities, collecting and avoiding disturbing impacts on ecosystems and biodiversity; • When data is collected regularly, there will be policy recommendations for the country; • Using effectively the human resources and financial resources to minimize and prevent the impacts of marine waste; plastic pollution; • Fundraising for conservation management activities which are associated with minimizing plastic pollution
