The project aims to reduce marine plastic litter by ensuring that less plastic is entering general solid waste streams where the coverage and effectiveness of the management systems is weak.
Reduce marine litter from land-based sources in the region, in line with the COBSEA Regional Action Plan on Marine Litter. The multi-stakeholder initiative will:
1. Identify and scale up market-based solutions and appropriate regulatory and fiscal incentives;
2. Strengthen the science basis for decision-making; increase public awareness and promote consumer behavioural change;
3. Facilitate regional networking, coordination and stakeholder engagement. It directly delivers on SDG 14 target 1 and SDG Goal 12 target 5
